Bow-tiful look RIbbon is an
easy and versatile way to decorate for the holidays
If there's one
mainstay to holiday decorating, it's got to be bows. You see them everywhere - on wreaths,
swags, garlands, trees and packages.
We wrap the world in a cozy, creative cocoon of ribbon as we celebrate the holiday
seasons between Thanksgiving and the New Year.
But bows are just one way to utilize ribbon in your festive decor. Let children use
ribbon instead of colored construction paper to make a garland to wind around the tree,
tuck ribbon roses into baskets of evergreens, craft ribbon angels for package ornaments
and table decorations, and lace lampshades with lengths of ribbon. To make your holiday
dinner table look like a giant gift, lay a strip of ribbon down the middle and then across
the center and place a giant bow in the middle. Wrap little gifts, with mini bows of
course, as placecards for each person at the table; tuck dinner mints inside each box.
You'll find ribbon is an easy and versatile way to create a bow-tiful look for the
holidays in your home.
Here's how to use three yards of ribbon to make a florist bow for your holiday
decorations:
A. 8 inches from one end of ribbon, pinch firmly between thumb and index finger.
B. Make a 5-inch loop (half the size of the finished bow) pinch tightly. If ribbon is
one-sided, twist length to right side. Make second loop and pinch over first two pinches.
C. Repeat this process forming 4 loops on each side.
D. Make a center knot by forming a small loop over your thumb, pinch and wire all loops
together, trim excess. Wire 14-inch length to back for tails.
