CULTURE: Plant young trees in reasonably fertile, well-drained soil that's slightly
bermed because tree does not like soggy roots. Sun exposure intensifies bright coral bark
and branches in winter. Mulch root zone. Sensitive to drought; water moderately.
LEAVES: Deeply 5-lobed leaves; deciduous, meaning it loses its leaves over winter.
FLOWERS: Insignificant.
FRUIT: Winged seeds that hang like bunches of keys against summer foliage.
USES: Spectacular specimen plant attractive throughout year with light green spring
leaves tinged with faint red; fall leaves in soft canary yellow; and bright coral bark
during winter.
PRUNING: None necessary, only corrective or shaping.
WINTER PROTECTION: None needed.
